Saarburg – History tour

We will be approaching Saarburg from its history. Founded more than 1050 years ago by Siegfried, Earl of Luxembourg, Saarburg has prospered throughout the 13th and 14th century. Handcraft such as tannery and bell-foundery has left ist marks over centuries, so has the river Saar.

Saarburger Rausch – one of the most famous vineyards in the Saar valley, above the rooftops

Discover Riesling from the Saar region and its unique landscape by walking through the vineyards of Saarburg

Millions of years have formed the landscape of the Saar region. Understand and taste the uniqueness of great Rieslings from the Saar region. Meeting up at the top of Saarburger Rausch, we walk downhill over the rooftops of the picturesque town of Saarburg and will be tasting a variety of wines growing here.

Winetour in Ayl – 5 km distance from Saarburg

Slopes are inclined by 45 degrees, sun shines on the vines all day long. This makes the Ayler Kupp one of the best vineyards in the Saar valley. We will be approaching this famous terroir during a walking tour, including wine tasting.

Visiting Saarburg with Lady Katie anno 1910 – Guided tour in historical costumes

A time machine accidentally sends Lady Katie to the 21st century. She is suffragette and spouse of an English wine dealer. As such, she has become an expert on wines from the Saar region. Lady Katie visits Saarburg in the year 1910 and accompanies the visitors on a sightseeing tour through Saarburg, tasting great wines from the Saar valley inclusive.

Nikolaus Valdenaire, a French revolutionist – Guided tour in historical costumes

Nikolaus Valdenaire landed with the troops of the French Revolutionary Army in Saarburg.  He earned his money collecting taxes for Napoleon. He managed to increase his fortune and stayed in the region even when Prussians took over. In 1848, he was fighting for liberty, equality and democracy, locally called a „baby revolution“. In a guided city tour, he speaks about his life and the situation in Saarburg in his time.
